Deezer says its AI music detection technology has been selected for TIME’s Best Inventions of 2026. The streaming company confirmed the recognition in an October 15 announcement, describing a list of 300 innovations. Its detector has operated since early 2025 and supports the identification of fully synthetic music on the service. According to Deezer, nearly 90,000 fully AI-generated tracks now arrive each day, exceeding half of daily deliveries on its busiest days. Those figures describe uploads to Deezer, rather than the share of music people actually listen to.
The company reports detecting and excluding more than 42 million AI-generated tracks from algorithmic and editorial recommendations between January 2025 and August 2026. It also licenses its detection technology to other music businesses. The recognition draws attention to detection as infrastructure for catalog transparency, but it does not by itself establish that every classification is correct. Deezer distinguishes AI identification from fraudulent listening: detected AI tracks are excluded from recommendations, while streams identified as manipulated are excluded from royalty calculations. Treating those as separate decisions matters when assessing the consequences for creators and distributors.
